CFS

Child and Family Services (CFS) is responsible for the safety and well-being of children and families in Manitoba. While you have experience with the CFS system, the system can be confusing to navigate because there are 3 different levels of services that are responsible for the wellbeing of children and families: the Department of Families oversees CFS Authorities which then oversee CFS Agencies, which provide you with services related to your care experience.

Rights

You have the right to know what your CFS rights are when you enter care and anytime you ask.

Financial Support

You have the right to financial support while you are in care and programs to help when you exit care.

Complaints Process

You have the right to file a complaint if your rights are violated or you are not receiving proper services.

Access to CFS File

You have the right to access your CFS file once you turn 18.

Find an Advocate

You have the right to speak to an advocate and have them present at meetings. Advocates can help explain your rights and make sure they are upheld.
