Emergency Housing

Types Of Emergency Housing

Emergency housing is temporary housing that can help you find stable housing, protect you from harsh weather or provide you with meals and sanitary products.

Shelters

Shelters are available for folks who are experiencing homelessness. There are day and overnight shelters that offer the same or similar services. Generally, shelters are temporary placements and provide sleeping areas, showers, food and clothing.

Youth in Care Emergency Housing

Safe Suites

Up to 90 days of housing with the goal of providing time for you to plan with your CFS worker to get more secure housing.

Eligibility

  • Be in CFS care or on an Agreements with Young Adults (AYA)
  • Be between 17-21 years old
  • Have ID – ask your CFS worker if you don’t have ID
  • Have a bank account – as your CFS worker if you don’t have ID

How to apply

  • Ask your CFS worker that to send the referral to the program

What to expect

  • Safe short-term housing
  • Goal setting with you, the staff and your CFS worker
  • Help with finding safe long-term housing

Cooling Centres

Cooling Centres are places you can go to cool down in the hot summer. These places often have food, hygiene supplies and washrooms.

Heating Centres

Heating Centres are places you can go to stay warm during the cold season. You cannot stay overnight and usually have to stay awake while you are there. These places often have food, hygiene supplies and washrooms.
